The object of this project is the execution of the corresponding infrastructures for the development of the road network (future motorway), along with the corresponding detailed Environmental Impact Study, analysing the feasibility of the project, for the development of the different zones of the western region of the island of Boa Vista.
The new road network runs from north to south with a total corridor length of 17,619.45 m with a cross section comprising a platform 38 metres wide set out in four (4) lanes of 3.5 metres (two in each direction); two external verges of 2.5 metres; two internal verges of 1.50 metres, 4 hard shoulders of 1 metre and a median of twelve (12) metres.
However, the road has been designed so that it can be put into service with only one track, to satisfy the current traffic demands, as shown on the attached photographs. This allows greater flexibility in an infrastructure of this type, allowing, in the event, easy enlargement of the road in the future since the corresponding ground foundations have been foreseen.
The action foresees four junctions, which in the current situation of the infrastructure have consisted of four roundabouts, at the Airport junction, the Povoaçao Velha intersections, the Santa Mónica junction and the Lacaçao junction.
The construction of the road network means the creation of a drainage network for rainwater which aims to achieve the following objectives:
- To give continuity to the existing network of natural drainage and to reorder the new network of drainage created as a consequence of the implementation of the roadworks.
- To drain the roadworks themselves.
The necessary road marking, signage and road lighting elements were also foreseen.
Likewise, the complementary operations needed have been foreseen for the proper finalisation of the work.
